Disc Detective end user series is a versatile collection of tools which allow you to verify the quality and integrity of data on all your compact discs including multimedia and Video CDs. These tools give you access to every sector of your CD-ROM, and perform complete sector by sector comparisons between discs. This version includes audio player functions.
The professional series of Disc Detective (CDDPRO), has advanced premastering and analysis functions for data and audio CDs. It compares discs to image files resident on hard disk or tape (8mm Exabyte and 4mm DAT). It allows editing of any sector in an image file, so you can fix a problem your analysis may find. Video CD functions are also included.
The Disc Detective Data Verification System is a combination of the professional series of Disc Detective, with a Pentium 90 computer and a CD-ROM drive tower for comparison of multiple discs. Add a tape drive, and you can compare up to 6 discs to an image file on tape. An exciting new addition to the Disc Detective family of CD verification products.
[001 System: Drive Select ]
Select the CD drive to be accessed. Disc Detective shows all available CD-ROM drives by drive letter and device driver name. Simply press the <driveletter> and <enter> to select it. If only one drive is available, that drive is automatically selected. If multiple drives are present, Disc Detective selects the first available drive on your system by default. Press Esc to return to the main menu screen.
[002 System: Drive Reset ]
Returns Disc Detective to its default status. Resetting the drive ensures the accuracy of your testing. You are returned to the main screen once the drive has reset. The active drive may be changed as many times as necessary by performing a Drive Select and Drive Reset as described above.
[003 System: CD-ROM Driver ]
Displays a listing of information about the active device: header address, next pointer, attributes, strategy routine, interrupt routine, device name, and drive letter. You can view the device driver header in HEX and ASCII. It also displays I/O port address, IRQ, DMA and memory buffer size found in CONFIG.SYS and the configuration of your system.
[004 System: DOS Shell ]
Exits to a DOS prompt, leaving Disc Detective and its settings intact. Disc Detective stays resident in memory, using about 170K bytes. To re-enter Disc Detective, type EXIT and <enter> at any DOS prompt.
[005 System: CONFIG.SYS - View System Configuration ]
Displays contents of the CONFIG.SYS file. The command lines in your CONFIG.SYS file carry out instructions that configure your hardware and reserve space in memory for information processing when you start your computer. For our purpose, it sets the device drivers that allow you to use CD-ROM drives in your system.
[006 System: AUTOEXEC.BAT - View System Configuration ]
Displays contents of the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Command lines in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file set more specific characteristics of devices in your system after CONFIG.SYS has done its work. Once AUTOEXEC.BAT links CD-ROM extensions to device drivers by device name, your computer displays the DOS prompt. (Usually C:>)

[009 System: Open/Close Drive Door ]
Opens or closes the disc tray of the active drive. It will eject but not load a disc caddy. Remember to perform the Drive Reset command after you load a new disc.
[010 System: Exit to DOS ]
Terminates Disc Detective and returns to the DOS prompt. (Usually C:>)
[101 Premaster: Compare ]
Compare to verify the data integrity between any two image files. Disc Detective performs a bit-for-bit comparison of CD images or image files stored on CD, tape or hard disks.
This function requires Disc Detective Professional (CDDPRO).
[102 Premaster: Tape Transfer ]
Creates or copies a disc image or image file to 8mm Exabyte or 4mm DAT tape.
This function requires Disc Detective Professional (CDDPRO).
[103 Premaster: Skip Tape File ]
Skips a file on 8mm Exabyte or 4mm DAT tape to locate the desired image file.
This function requires Disc Detective Professional (CDDPRO).
[104 Premaster: Rewind Tape ]
Controls the tape drive, returning the tape to its start point. Tape tension is reset, ready for recording.
This function requires Disc Detective Professional (CDDPRO).
[105 Premaster: Unload Tape ]
Unload Tape rewinds the tape and ejects it.
This function requires Disc Detective Professional (CDDPRO).
[106 Premaster: Create File ]
Reads a CD image and saves its image file to a hard disk. Will also copy an image file from an 8mm Exabyte or 4mm DAT tape to a hard disk.
This function requires Disc Detective Professional (CDDPRO).
[107 Premaster: Make Hybrid CD-ROM ]
Merges an Apple HFS disc and an ISO 9660 disc into a combination image file containing the data structure for both partitions. The hybrid image file is saved to tape or hard disk. REQUIRES two CD drives.

[108 Premaster: Select Track ]
Select Track to choose a data track for testing. All tracks are listed by number and start Atime. Press track number and <enter> to select track.

[201 Structure: Table of Contents ]
Displays the Table of Contents (TOC) of the CD mounted in the active drive. TOC is listed by track number, track index and track type. Shows start and end Atime of each track. Audio tracks show emphasis, copy protection and number of channels.
[202 Structure: Volume Size ]
Shows Volume Size of the CD mounted in the active drive. Displays number of tracks, data track start/end Atime, leadout start, number of sectors, sector size.
[203 Structure: Data Read ]
Reads mounted data CD and displays track information. Enter CD position by Atime or sector number. Displays sector size/type/number and HEX/ASCII data from selected sector.
[204 Structure: View Image ]
Reads any sector of any image file. Type filename including path and switch and <enter>. Select Atime or sector to view. Displays sector size/type/number and HEX/ASCII data from selected sector.
[205 Structure: Edit Image ]
Enables byte editing of selected sector of any image file. Type filename including path and switch and <enter>. Select Atime or sector to edit. Press <F4> to enable cursor, arrow keys, and keyboard within the HEX field. <Esc> to the save dialog.

[206 Structure: Volume Descriptor ]
Displays the complete volume descriptor from the mounted data disc. Try it to see who made the disc, and when.
[207 Structure: File Structure ]
Lists system area and path table of the mounted disc by Atime. Page through to find the sector address of any directory or file on the disc.
[208 Structure: Select Track ]
Select Track to choose a data track for testing. All tracks are listed by number and start Atime. Press track number and <enter> to select track.

[209 Structure: Open/Close Drive Door ]

[301 Audio-CD: Table of Contents ]

[302 Audio-CD: Audio Play ]
Use to listen to or analyze an audio track from any audio or Mixed-Mode CD. Use Disc Detective to play selection(s) for analysis, or in the background while you run another application.
[303 Audio-CD: Repeat On/Off ]
Toggle "On" causes Audio Play to repeat play of audio selection(s). Selections will continue to play in the background until you select Stop Play.
[304 Audio-CD: Resume Play ]
Resumes play of a selection from where it was stopped.
[305 Audio-CD: Stop Play ]
Stops play of your selection. Acts as a pause command. To restart play, use the Resume Play command.
[306 Audio-CD: Volume Control ]
Volume Control changes the level of output from your speakers.
[307 Audio-CD: Program Select ]
Chooses any combination of audio tracks to be played.
[308 Audio-CD: Transfer Track ]
Reads an audio track and saves its image file to a hard disk.

[309 Audio-CD: Select Track ]
Select Track to choose an audio track for testing. All tracks are listed by number and start Atime. Press track number and <enter> to select track.
[310 Audio-CD: Open/Close Drive Door ]

[401 Video-CD: MPEG Stream Analysis ]
Play and analyze the video bit stream in real time. Start and stop the readout with the space bar.

[402 Video-CD: Select Track ]
Select Track to choose a data track for testing. All tracks are listed by number and start Atime. Press track number and <enter> to select track.

[403 Video-CD: Compare Volume ]
Compares an entire data disc (volume) to the second disc including the pause between tracks. For a mixed mode CD, use Compare function under Premaster menu.

[501 Diagnostics: Test Disc ]
Analyzes any disc sector or range of sectors for readability and uncorrectable errors.
[502 Diagnostics: Full Stroke Test ]
Tests the seek time of a CD reader. Uses full strokes to perform a data read across a disc. Requires a disc with a data length of over 60 minutes to perform the test.
[503 Diagnostics: One-Third Stroke Test ]
Tests the seek time of a CD reader. Uses one-third strokes to perform a data read across a disc. Requires a disc with a data length of over 30 minutes to perform the test.
[504 Diagnostics: Postgap Check ]
Verifies disc postgap conforms to specification. Yellow Book requires that the last 150 sectors of the data area (2 seconds) contain an unbroken stream of zeros.
[505 Diagnostics: Skew Test ]
Confirms that the disc's Atime matches physical location of data. A skew value of zero is most desirable.
[506 Diagnostics: Access Sector ]
Access Sector displays HEX/ASCII data by Atime or sector specified. This function treats the entire disc as one volume, allowing access to any location on a disc, including any gaps between the tracks.
[507 Diagnostics: Spot Check ]
Spot Check tests the same physical location on a number of discs. Select the start and end points by Atime or sector, and Disc Detective will compare that range of sectors on any number of discs. This command includes Random Access testing of a disc over a specified time period.
